| Written by UP Concert Chorus

The UP Concert Chorus (UPCC), by insistent public demand, reprises its successful 60th anniversary concert 鈥淪ama-Sama Together Again鈥 on February 17, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the UP Theater, on the same day last year that it performed to a jam packed hall, a concert that sold out three weeks before the show date.

Auspiciously held in National Arts Month that celebrates Filipino artistic excellence and culture, the concert brings back six decades of UPCC batches鈥攆rom alumni of the 60s to its current members. It also features UPCC alumna Nanette Inventor, UPCC alumnus Prof. Tony Maigue, Kontra-GaPi led by UPCC alumnus Prof. Edru Abraham, and multi-awarded UPCC alumni-conductors Dr. Joel Navarro, Prof. Jai Aracama and Dr. Ed Manguiat. It will be directed by UPCC alumnus Rico Mortel.

Proceeds will help support the UPCC as they represent the Philippines in their performances in the 25th International Goodwill and Cultural Concert Tour this year, and the various socio-civic activities of the UP Concert Chorus Alumni Association (UPCCAA).

鈥淭heir (UPCC) 60th homecoming celebratory concert is unparalleled,鈥 said National Artist Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, citing the concert鈥檚 first run on February 17, 2023 and that 鈥淎lumni homecomings can wield thousands of participants, but the UPCC is unique. They all sing, move in unison, dance in choreographed splendor AND HAVE FUN. Pati the audience had fun. And the tradition continues.鈥

Renowned conductor Jonathan Velasco encourages everyone to buy their tickets early and go to the UP Theatre early. Recalling the sold-out concert last year, he said: 鈥淭he 60th Anniversary concert of the UP Concert Chorus last night was a blast! He cited the many vehicles that lined University Avenue, all the way to the UP Theatre and around the UP Oval.

He continued: 鈥淥nly UPCC can do that! In the audience were THREE NATIONAL ARTISTS FOR MUSIC: Ramon Santos, Fides Cuyugan Asensio, Ryan Cayabyab, and our NATIONAL ARTIST FOR LITERATURE – Gemino Abad!鈥
